September has been a very busy month for every one at the Institute of Martial Arts! The competition team was in full preparation for American National, the Abu Dhabi Trials and No Gi Pan ams. In addition to all the comps happening state side we had Manny Diaz getting ready for his big match at Copa Podio in Brazil! Also in the month of September phase 2 of the remodel was complete (thanks to Roy Kawaji), and we were host to the first bay area’s inspire all women bjj event.
Well half way through and so far so good! The results showed what we knew from the beginning, with hard work and sacrifice good things happen, remodel is done, inspire was a success and Manny did well in Brazil. One of the biggest events, the American Nationals, also was a success. As a team we took down 14 athletes who came home with a total of 19 medals! With me in Cancun doing the Brasa camp, the team was led by Samir Chantre and Queixinho. For Samir , who closed out the division with Queixinho in both gi and no gi it was the fourth year in a row he won his divisions! It is hard to teach, compete and train but these guys unselfishly make it happen. Congrats to every one who competed and thanks to every one who helped train and support these guys. There is a saying, a house is only as strong as it’s foundation, for CTA that foundation is our team.
Next up ADCC trials, No gi Pans and then US Open next month!!
