Last weekend Professor Caio Terra started the year off right winning the 2015 European Championships! The Euro’s along with Pans, Worlds and No-gi worlds are considered one of the four “majors” of our sport. Although it was great to see him on the mat competing again, unfortunately it also revealed he isn’t 100% yet. From his Facebook page.
“When I registered and booked my ticket to Europeans my goal wasn’t to win, but make it to Portugal and compete. The goal was accomplished after my first match, the medal was just a bonus.
At the end, every winner was celebrating their victory but for myself it was very different. In 2014 I got sick. After taking most of the year off and doing what the dr’s said I felt better in training.
Before the Semi’s the headache and dizziness returned and at first I thought it was nerves or just in my head. During the match I knew it was more. Very scary time and I debated not doing the final. I do plan to compete again but for now I’m going to rest and focus on teaching.
If this is my last Europeans I compete in I couldn’t be happier as I got to share the moment with my team. CTA is more than a group of friends, they truly are my family. My brother Kim was here by my side, it’s been too long since we shared the mats together and it was great. Can’t wait to do it more often!! Id like to thank Felipe Costa for all the years of friendships. This weekend he did an amazing job coaching me and helping me get through everything. To everyone back home who made this possible, Yuri Simoes Vitor Paschoal BJJ Flavio Meier BJJ and the rest of the guys I wouldn’t be here with out you.
Lastly I want to thank my students who inspire me to be a better teacher and person every day. I can’t thank you enough.
