The Town of Parker is a Home Rule Municipality in Douglas County, Colorado, United States. As a self-declared “Town” under the Home Rule Statutes, Parker is the second most populous town in the county; Castle Rock is the most populous. In recent years, Parker has become a coummuter town at the southeasternmost corner of the Denver Metropolitan Area. As of the 2000 census, the town was 45,297, over 145 times the population of 285 when Parker incorporated in 1981. Parker is now the 18th most populous municipality in the State of Colorado.
This once-rural enclave still has a charming ranch vibe, with panoramic mountain views and the occasional cowboy hat. Steady growth has encouraged construction, which means relatively low home prices; many residents work at the Denver Tech Center, just 20 minutes away. One of the healthiest communities in America, this young town can expect a wealth of new recreation opportunities when a local reservoir is completed in 2012.
Founded in 1864 and incorporated in 1981, Parker sits at 5900 feet above sea level. From 1990 to 200, Parker grew 191% and was the fastest growing town in Douglas County.
In general, the Parker population is highly educated, maintains a higher income average than the Denver metro area, and is part of the excellent Douglas County School District
