Everyone loves to win, but sometimes our desire to win clouds our ability to progress and understand what is taught in class. Knowing the technique and applying it are seperate tasks. You can know the steps of a technique, but until you can use it with the proper timing against a resisting opponent, you haven't truly understood it.
At the end of all our classes, we have designated time for positional training. These situational drills are meant to enable students to learn how to hold the position of the day and attempt the techniques against a resisting opponent. The goal in these sessions is not to win, but to attempt using the techniques you've learn from the days position. This way you will learn to rely less on attributes of strength, speed, and flexiblity and use movement and technique instead.
Focus on understanding and you will grow exponentially both on the mats and in life!
